The new mandatory dog training course for first-time dog owners in the canton of Basel-Stadt. Starting April 1, 2025, first-time dog owners must attend the "Basic Human & Dog Course Basel-Stadt" dog training course.
First-time dog owners must complete the lessons within 12 months of adopting the dog. The minimum age for dogs to begin the course is 4 months.
The required course includes 8 practical lessons with some theoretical elements. The "Basic Course for Humans and Dogs in Basel-Stadt" is exam-free. Individuals who have previously owned dogs – and can prove this – are exempt from the mandatory course requirement, but may, of course, attend the course voluntarily.
The following questions will be addressed, among others: What are my dog's needs? How can I better understand my dog's communication? What are the rules of dog etiquette? How does a dog learn?
The "Basic Course for Humans and Dogs in Basel-Stadt" is intended to provide a solid foundation so that you can grow together into a wonderful human-dog team.
All dogs at least 16 weeks (4 month) old are eligible to participate.
Important: I only accept teams I have met before.
I also try my best to accommodate the availability of participants for group lessons.
The course dates listed are therefore subject to change as needed.
Courses are expected to start in August 2025.
